THE MARK IOLA SCHOLARSHIP
In 2003, Mark H. Iola, attorney and founder of Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Green Country, set out to create a way for former Littles to continue their education after graduating from high school. His generosity began a legacy that ensures that any Little has the opportunity for further education.
A committee reviews the merits of new and returning applicants. The funds are awarded twice a year. All Iola scholarships may be used for any educational expenses while attending a college, university, vocational training, trade, or graduate school.
Eligibility is easy. You may be eligible or know someone who is. If you or your nominee has been a Little Brother or Little Sister for at least one year, then they should consider applying for the Iola Scholarship assistance.
Neither the Littles nor Bigs need to currently be active in the BBBS program.
Applicants will be evaluated based on financial need, volunteer work, community involvement and acceptance into a qualified program. The purpose of the fund is to advance the education of Littles.
All applications must be completed and received by the appropriate deadline.
• July 1 for fall semester
• December 1 for spring and summer semesters
The application must include the following:
• Application form
• Official transcript
• Acceptance and/or proof of registration for semester applying
• Essay from applicant illustrating need
• Letter(s) of recommendation
• FAFSA award letter from institution
For consideration, the application must be submitted according to the deadlines. The scholarship committee meets shortly after the deadlines to consider all submissions and award the funds. The recipients are notified in writing. The committee will review complete applications only.
